WRC GRAND PRIX

WRC GRAND PRIX
Our grand prix is an annual championship for all members that compete as Washington Running Club entrants in local parkruns and races. This is a club championship across a number of selected events in six divisions - 3 men's and 3 ladies. The Grand Prix begins in January and ends in November, with prizes awarded to winners at the Christmas party ?
We hope to begin the next Grand Prix in January 2022, details of how to opt in will be posted nearer the time....

How does the Grand Prix work?.......
Each division will be scored across four categories:
1. a runner's best parkrun points score in the year from Riverside, Herrington and Washington Great Run Local (up to closing date)
2. a series of nominated races up to 10K distance
3. a series of nominated endurance races (currently up to marathon distance)
4. completion of NEHL cross country races for the club

For the parkrun category the fastest person for each event in each division will earn 30 points, second fastest 29 points, third 28 points and so on. Your single best score across the three events will be used.

For the up to 10K category there are 10 nominated events and the endurance section has 11 events, with scoring in each race again being 30 points and down. However only your best two scores are counted in each category. This means you're not penalised if you don't enter all the events, but the more you enter the more chances you give yourself of placing well.

For each cross country event you complete for the club you will earn 5 points. There are 7 races available so potentially 35 points available here.

The scoring will therefore be your parkrun placing, your two best up to 10K scores, your two best endurance scores and your XC points total.

Which division a runner is placed in is determined by the grand prix officials, and the officials will update the league tables regularly throughout the year. You will find details of the rules and events within this section of the website, together with current published league tables. Some information is also within the "Files" section of our closed Facebook group which is available to members.

We reserve the right to amend runners' divisions where appropriate, and we may add more events if necessary (for example events selling out early, or if a large number of our runners enter an event not currently featured).

The idea behind this is to encourage race entry within the club, to add a bit of interest to races at a club level, and to promote a bit of healthy competition.
